Chlorpyrifos is a broad spectrum organ phosphorus compound, with anticholinesterase enzyme activity against a variety of chewing, sucking and boring insects/pests and used worldwide. Continuous and excessive uses of chlorpyrifos for agricultural as well as other purpose have resulted in environmental pollution, human and animal adverse health effects. Biodegradation of chlorpyrifos by microbes is a cost effective technique for environmental clean-up of this toxic pesticide. Microorganisms including bacteria, fungi and actinomycetes alone as well as together have been reported to efficiently degrade chlorpyrifos. The present review article deals with the isolated chlorpyrifos degrading microorganisms and enzyme systems probably playing active role in chlorpyrifos degradation

Discovery Biotechnology publishes articles and reports in a wide range of subject areas: science and technology. Special emphasis will be given to research and development, as well as the latter’s interface with the nature, particularly as they relate to major areas of concern in Universe. Copyright for material accepted for publication will transfer to the publisher. The journal publishes papers in English and paper should have an abstract in English of up to 100-400 words.
